The Northern Côtes du Rhône vineyards

The northern Rhône Valley is subject to a semi-continental climate, hot and sunny. North of Valence, the rains are regular and allow the vines to have the water they need.

In the vineyard as in the cellar, the Domaine offers different terroirs to offer authentic wines.

The terroir “Les Chassis”, is made up mainly of rolled pebbles and gravel which keeps the heat throughout the day in order to restore it during the night. These rich soils, form a beautiful balance mixing clay and limestone.

The terroir “Les Saviaux” is also composed of pebbles but brings a more clayey dimension, richer in iron.

Clay offers the advantage of restoring water, little by little and with regularity, in the vineyard.

The winery history

The family history begins in 1919 and evolves with the choices and wishes of 4 successive generations. At the start, the farm had a few hectares of vines and the grapes were delivered to a cooperative cellar.

Subsequently, Gaston managed the property, then his son Edgar settled in 1975 and took over all the land. Since then, the estate has grown and modernized.

In 2006, the Domaine de la Ville Rouge was born. The beginning of a long and beautiful story is thus emerging, carried by the personality of a man, Sébastien, ready to assert his own vision of the wine world. Since then, the Domaine has been certified Organic in 2012 and Bio-dynamic in 2018.

Today, all the vinification is done at the estate which covers almost 20 hectares.

In 2016 Audrey, Sébastien’s wife joined the estate and took charge of the administrative part.

Le Vigneron

Sébastien grew up in the heart of the North Rhône Valley.

A native of the country and a lover of his region, Sébastien practiced

kayaking in the waters of the Drôme. Great sportsman with the soul of a competitor, he very quickly chooses to launch a new challenge to be as close as possible to nature. 

Convinced of embarking on a project that suited him, he decided to resume his studies in viticulture-oenology in Beaune and obtained a diploma in wine and spirits sales techniques. He then joined his parents in the profession of winegrower.

Drawing on his past experiences in the cooperative cellar and in other farms in the region, Sébastien confirms his desire to become a winegrower in his turn.
