The Pic Saint Loup Vineyard

Pic Saint Loup is a mountain and a wine-producing appellation area surrounding it in the southern France’s Languedoc qin region.

Located 30 kilometers from Montpellier, it is one of the most beautiful nuggets of Languedoc. Here, we find a real climatic singularity that lasts whatever the vintage. The influence of the continental climate, which mingles with that of the Mediterranean climate, shapes the wines of Pic Saint Loup, renowned for their delicacy and freshness out of the ordinary on the Mediterranean coast.

Pic Saint Loup AOP covers exclusively red and rosé wines.

Local producers can produce white wines, but those fall under the broader Languedoc AOP appellation.

The Story of the Winery

Toni Schuler, an oenologist by Swiss nationality, bought the Bergerie de Fenouillet in 1998 from a family of winegrowers.

He quickly surrounded himself with a multi-skilled team: Michel Wack, his manager and operational director, several specialized workers in charge of the vineyard as well as a building keeper.

Quickly, Toni wanted to vinify on site and built the cellar. He also grubbed up about fifteen hectares of vines in the plain, because they were not qualitative.

When Michel Wack joined the estate in 2002, he and Toni developed the vineyard’s strategy, setting production targets at 35-45 hl / ha. And while Toni keeps control of the wine making and the choice of cuvées, he trusts his team with all the decisions concerning the vineyard.

The winegrower

Michel Wack, the director of the estate, has created a real space for biodiversity. On the 120 ha of land, vines, scrubland, orchards, woods, women, men and animals coexist in harmony. In this island of diversity, “everyone has found their place”, as Michel likes to say.

In order to formalize the global approach to respect the environment, Michel and his team conduct the vineyard according to the specifications of organic farming. They are currently in the process to be organic certified.
